THE SHELLEY SELLER COLLECTION No.5 – Moving Forward, The Final Countdown

Seller Success Series by Shelley Auffret — No. 5

Congratulations!

Selling your home is a significant milestone. As settlement approaches, there are a few important things to organise to help your move run smoothly.

Here is a simple checklist to help you stay on track.

Your Moving Timeline

4–6 Weeks Before Moving

  • Book your removalists
  • Start decluttering and packing non-essential items
  • Arrange storage if required
  • Notify schools or childcare, if applicable
  • Start organising utility transfers

2 Weeks Before Moving

  • Confirm your settlement date
  • Arrange mail redirection
  • Update your address with banks, insurance providers and subscriptions
  • Arrange cleaning if required

Moving Week

  • Pack an essentials box for the first day
  • Defrost the fridge and freezer
  • Confirm your removalist arrival time
  • Return spare keys, remotes and property manuals
  • Complete a final walkthrough of the property

Utilities and Change of Address

Remember to update your details with:

  • Electricity
  • Water
  • Gas
  • Internet
  • Streaming services
  • Banks
  • Driver licence
  • Electoral enrolment
  • Australia Post mail redirection
  • Medicare and health insurance
  • Mobile provider
  • Pet registrations, if required

Keeping these updates organised can help avoid unnecessary issues after your move.

Settlement Day

Settlement is the day ownership of the property officially transfers to the buyer.

On settlement day:

  • Your solicitor or conveyancer completes the legal transfer
  • Funds are distributed
  • Keys are released to the buyer
  • Your property sale is officially complete

I’ll stay in touch throughout the process and let you know as soon as settlement has taken place.

Congratulations — you’ve reached the finish line!

Helpful Local Contacts

Moving often involves more than just packing. If you need help, I’m happy to recommend trusted local professionals, including:

  • Removalists
  • Bond and exit cleaners
  • Garden maintenance
  • Handymen
  • Painters
  • Electricians
  • Plumbers
  • Window cleaners
  • Storage facilities
  • Professional organisers
  • Property stylists

Need someone who isn’t listed? Just ask. I’m always happy to help.

Your Next Chapter Starts Here

Settlement may mark the end of your property sale, but it doesn’t have to be the end of our relationship.

If you’re buying again, considering an investment, wondering what your property is worth or simply need real estate advice, I’m always available to help.

Many clients come back to me for their next property decision, and many become friends along the way. That ongoing relationship is one of the most rewarding parts of my work.

If someone you know is thinking about buying or selling, I’d be honoured to help them with the same care and commitment.

Thank you for placing your trust in me.
